As members worked at the station York County 911 struck out "Box 7-27" for a "High Risk Structure Fire... reported Barn Fire" in the 8100 block of Blooming Grove Road in Codorus Township. The assignment call for Companies 7, 59, 47, Truck 58, Tanker 59, Brush 59, and MICU 7 to respond. Engine 59-1 (OIC AC Naylor), Tanker 59 (OIC FF Sanders), and Brush 59 (OIC FF Loudermilk) responded with a total of 10 personnel. Chief 7 (Utz) and Captain 7-2 (Kidd) were first to arrive and reported an approx. "40 X 70 Barn fully involved" and Chief 7 established "Blooming Grove Road Command". Engine 59-1 was the first unit to arrive immediately after Chief 7 and was instructed to protect the side "Delta" exposure. Due to the water supply being only 100 feet from the engine Assistant Chief Naylor instructed 2 members to stretch a Blitz Fire line to side "Delta" to protect the exposure and third member to man the deck gun. The deck gun was used initially to knock down the fire while personnel secured a draft with the Brush Unit. Once the initial knock down occurred crews stretched additional hand lines to extinguish the remaining fire. Command was able to release the Tankers due to the water supply being so close. Members worked at the scene for approx. 4 1/2 hours before Command placed the Box available. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injuries to any civilians or fire department personnel were reported. ...

As members enjoyed a rare 60 degree January Saturday York County 911 alerted Box 59-4 for a "Brush Fire" in the 12000 block of Jessica Lane in Shrewsbury Township. The dispatch alerted company 59 and Ambulance 59 for the call. Chief 59 (Anstine) was the first to respond and was informed by York that they had a report of a acre and a half on fire. Based on this update Chief 59 requested Station 72 be added to the call. Within minutes of the Chief's response Engine 59-1 (OIC AC Naylor), Brush 59 (OIC FF D. Naylor), and Tanker 59 (OIC Capt. Cook) called responding with a total of 11 personnel. Chief 59 arrived and found a working brush/woods fire but only approx 1/4 acre involved and established "Command 59". Brush 59 arrived and pulled a hand line to the head of the fire and started the attack. Command advised Engine 59-1 to split it's crew and have two go to work with rakes, one pull a second line off the Brush Unit and assist with suppression, and have the driver supply the Brush Unit with water. Members made a quick stop on the fire and were able to contain it to 1/4 of a acre. Members remained on the scene for about an hour for "mop up". The cause of the fire was a controlled burn that was spread by a wind gust. ...
